Some people use superlative terms to describe the Costa del Sol: Europe's California is one and what was once a nickname is now virtually its official name: Costa del Golf... Blue and green are the dominant colors in this one-of-a-kind picturesque landscape along this section of the coast, which boasts an average of 330 days of sunshine each year, making it the only winter free zone on the entire European mainland.
Blue stands for the sky, in which you'll have a hard time ever discovering a cloud, which has an equally powerful presence here as the ocean, whose colors are reflected in the sun pampered daylight. Green describes the now more than 50 golf courses, which characterize the breathtaking and contrasting views between the coastline and the mountain ranges.
In extreme cases, the greens and fairways may reach all the way to the beach or expand up to the fringes of the rugged and bizarre rock landscapes in the back country.
We challenge you to find a single golfer who would not speak of Valderrama, Sotogrande, Las Brisas, Alhaurin or Mijas Golf with great reverence - and that's just a few of the great courses on the long list. And where else in Europe could you go to ski on world champion slopes and swim in the Mediterranean on one single day and even add a round on a 18-hole course? The Sierra Nevada and the Costa del Sol offer all of these things.
Join Hartmut U. Hallek, a well-known journalist writing for vacation magazines, on an exploration of the coastline that is among the best of the best. His presentation is highly entertaining and humorous (he always seems to have a wink in his eye); his descriptions will make one of Europe’s most beautiful vacation regions come to life for you.
Welcome to Costa del Sol!
